BootMii Configuration Editor v2.4 Development Information

v2.4 is already in the works, and currently has on-line automatic updating in place.
When a new version is released following v2.4, the application will download (if you choose to) the new version of the application.

I did have the idea of making it download all the files excluding the settings file, but this would be a waste of bandwidth so I’m going to add zip support also and make it download and unzip the full release.

Given libwiiupdate seems to be dead, and I’ve had to pretty much write most of this from scratch, I might consider wrapping this up into a reusable library.

Changes in this release are:

  • Changes Skin/language dynamically as you move between the options.
  • Monochrome/Green Skin Skin improved by a new skin option in the skins XML file: maindecl and dialogdecl. These values allow for the display of a textual border around the monochrome/green screen skins constructed using the Pipe(|) and Minus (-) character
  • Further changes to resolve the reported sporadic crashes whilst changing language/skins from the settings menu.

BootMii Configuration Editor Questions/Issues/Suggestions/Support

If any one has any issues with BootMii Configuration Editor, would like to ask any questions, or perhaps you even have some suggestions on how to improve it, please follow the link in the menu to go to my forums page and post in the BootMii Configuration Editor sub forum.

There has been a report of a crash when entering the settings dialog, changing the skin and pressing to save the options.  I’ve been unable to recreate this in my testing.  If you experience this error, please can you report this in the forum.

There have been issues reported in previous versions that occurred when users launched from the earlier versions of the homebrew channel (v1.0.1)  All my testing has been through the latest version of the HBC (v1.0.3) and I’ve yet to experience a crash.

You’ll need to register to post in the forum – this is just to keep the spamming to a minimum.

WiiYM Preview

I mentioned previously that I’d been working on something else for the Wii, and here is the first preview of it.

WiiYM
Allows the playback of YM (YM2149 chip)music files originating from the Atari ST, Amstrad, Sinclair ZX Spectrum and other machine with a Yamaha YM2149 sound chip in it on your wii.

YM Music is close to my heart – I’ve always loved the Atari ST and the YM chip tunes, as you can probably tell from the BootMii Configuration Editor video soundtrack choices 🙂 This is still currently in a BETA form and there are various bugs which need resolving before this gets its first release, but it’s nearly ready and works pretty well as the following preview video shows.
